I forget which ones are the vowels and consonants and how to pronounce them. Do you have any tips on how to learn them? Dependant on how you have decided to learn Hangul, I would suggest trying an alternative if nothing has stuck so far.

So if your method is writing it out over and over again, instead try flashcards and vice versa. Try to think of creative ways to learn it! But here are some other methods you could use: Flashcards Write each Hangul character out and test yourself repeatedly. Charts Have a list of all Hangul characters and their possible combinations. Try segmenting them into small, similar groups.

Such as a group for consonants and a group for monopthongs one pure vowel etc. Try to memorise them.

In essence you just keep writing them out until you remember. The idea here is that the repetitive nature of the task helps to drill the information into your brain. Association Associate each Hangul character to something with its phonetic value.

This is perhaps one of the easiest ways to learn it. Just keep trying until one suits you and until you find the information beginning to stick! Just learn at a speed comfortable for you, and have fun with it! I treat the alphabet like a secret code. Referring back and forth between the chart and the article is the key!

Keep writing down its phonetic value like you are decoding a secret message, until you have worked through and deciphered maybe twenty news stories. The idea is that you are actively translating Hangul characters of large quantity in a small amount of time. At the same time, you become accustomed to how Hangul appears in quantities of text and which character combinations are common or rare.

The important thing to remember is that these shortcuts are usually only short term. So, you need to give yourself a break and then repeat the process in order to cement these short cuts into your long term memory.

So if you come across a vowel that is not on the first chart, just ignore it. I am wishing you so much luck with your studies!
